With a smidge over a month left until THE WOMEN’S EVENT OF THE YEAR (we think it is anyway!), you might be wanting to know a thing or two more about the Flourish 2014 keynote speaker.

Karen Wilson is her name, and encouraging people to live authentically is her thing.  We flicked her some questions to learn more about her personality, her interests and her message… here they are:

Explain yourself in a word. And then a paragraph.

Spontaneous.

Doing the same thing day in and day out drains the life out of me. I like a surprise at least once a day; to do something unexpected and unplanned ; that involves people on the journey and a whole lot of fun!

What’s the most vivid memory you have of your childhood?

Public transport adventures around Sydney. Bus rides to the city, ferry rides to Manley, train rides to Parramatta… always going somewhere!

What do you do to unwind?

Movies are my favourite.  Coffee shops. Long walks with friends. Words with friends on Facebook!

Here she is - the lovely Karen out for dinner with friends!

What are you reading?

Hebrews! Studying that book at theological college at the moment. Wow!

Early bird or night owl?

Night owl!

Tea or coffee?

Coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon. Love them both!

Favourite television show/movie, why?

Action packed sci-fi movies are a favourite. Thoroughly enjoy a ‘good guys win in the end’ movie plot.

You are stranded on a desert island with the opportunity to take one thing with you – what would it be? (No, that doesn’t include your husband or a boat-builder)

A boat load of other people. I figure anything is better with friends around!

"I would take these girls to a desert island," says Karen!

Most inspiring person you’ve met and why?

Gary Haugen from the International Justice Mission (IJM). Love what this group do and intend to get more involved with them in the future… whatever that means!

What’s life taught you lately?

Rest is important. Change brings energy. Great family moments are one of life’s greatest joys.

A special family moment: Karen dressed up for her daughter's 21st!

What are you passionate about?

Being part of helping people move forward in life and faith.

What do you hope people take away from what you share at Flourish this year?

Life is meant to be walked through well and with integrity. We need to  give ourselves permission to live life large and love it!

So what are you waiting for?  Grab yourself a ticket to this year’s Flourish event and hear from Karen in person.  Click here for more details and registration information.
